SEA TRAILS

For years the Careno Diving Philosophy in Sant'Andrea has been a member of the CSEN (Centro Sportivo Educativo Nazionale i.e. the National Educational Sports Centre), offering various daily underwater activities.
Its main aim is to protect and improve the territory and the environment in which it operates, paying particular high level, technical-scientific attention to the sea and its sea bed.

Since we wish to pay tribute to their genuine care, the professionalism of all those involved, and their love of both the marine and the land environment, we have decided to propose their activities, certain that you will fully appreciate these wonderful excursions that will enable you discover our crystal clear sea, inhabited by many different forms of life ... and the wonderful nature that with its colours and perfumes is without a doubt our "master of the house".

If requested, the complete snorkelling equipment (wet suit, mask, snorkel and flippers), will be provided directly by the diving centre.
If necessary, the instructors at the centre are available every Monday afternoon (on request) if anyone wishes a free diving trial; please remember that education and safety rules must be observed at all times, and trial tests can only be carried out in a safe, delimited sea area.

Snorkeling Experience
In January 1972 the Italian cargo ship "Elviscott" was sailing towards Marseilles, but due to an engine failure, made worse by the rough sea and stormy weather, it ran into the Ogliera, the giant rock just off the beach in Pomonte. The wreck now lies on the sea bed at the foot of the rock at a depth of 12 metres, with the stern just three metres below the surface. If you sail from the quay in Sant'Andrea on a rubber dinghy, passing one or two houses overlooking the sea and steep rocks, it will take you about 20 minutes to reach it.
Once there, just let down the anchor, and you can dive straight down, while saddled breams, white sea breams and damselfish swim past you, in no way disturbed by your presence.
On the way back, a stop at Le Formiche della Zanca, surfacing rocks in the middle of the sea, that with their caves and narrow inlets will offer a very colorful show of the Mediterranean flora and fauna. A unique and very interesting guided experience that is suitable for the whole family.
The excursion takes place in the afternoon and lasts about three hours.

Bio Snorkelling
Le Cote Piane, the giant cliffs on the left hand side of the beach in Sant'Andrea, consist of massive blocks of granodioritic rocks that plunge right down to the sea, and are covered in oceanic Posidonia and sea sponges.
The morphology of the sea bed, as well as the currents of the sea, enrichen and nourish the water, enabling many different species of flora and fauna to grow and flourish; swim along with your flippers and it will be like looking out the window and seeing Mediterranean marine biology ...
The excursion takes place in the afternoon and lasts about an hour and a half.
When: every day from Monday to Friday at 4.00 pm, advance booking only.

Night snorkelling
Once again Le Cote Piane is the setting for this unique experience that is not to be missed. You set off from the beach, equipped with waterproof torches(provided by the diving center) on the discovery of the sea at night time, only to discover that the sea is anything but asleep. The excursion takes place in the evening and lasts about an hour and a half. When: Tuesdays and Fridays at 9.30 pm, advance booking only.
Cost: € 30,00 per person.

LAND TRAILS

All our hikes are mainly on flat routes and never particularly long. With the right shoes (trainers or hiking shoes, better if with a rugged sole) and a little energy, they are suitable for everybody, especially children.
Remember not to overload your rucksack because you will only need: a bottle of water, a few snacks, a spare t-shirt, a camera with a zoom lens or binoculars should you wish to get a close look at birds of prey or cetaceans.
Those who wish to go for a swim in la Cotaccia should bring: swimming costume, beach towel, snorkel and mask, and suitable footwear for walking across the rocks.
Excursion includes meeting up for departure, initial briefing and stops along the way.

Trekking Towards the Sea
Walking slowly along the original, farming paths, from La Zanca you get to Cala della Cotaccia; since this area can be reached only on foot or by sea, it hasn't lost its truly rugged, natural environment over the years.
At the end of the walk, there is no better way to cool down that to go for a swim in this crystal clear water. After that, no need to walk all the way back to Sant'Andrea, as a rubber dinghy will be waiting a few meters from the shore to take you there. The tour guides will carry your rucksacks and personal belongings on board in practical watertight bags.

Hiking across ... the High Green Peaks
Leaving from Zanca once again, but this time going east towards Sant'Andrea. Up high, where the views of the entire coastline are breathtaking and the green Mediterranean woodland mingles with woods full of holm oaks and heather. A truly relaxing hike with only the sounds of nature around you.
The excursion takes place both in the morning and in the afternoon and lasts about three hours.
